For ingestible products, such as pharmaceuticals, and spirits or agrochemicals, a range of regulatory-approved markers can authenticate the product itself. These ingestible authentication markers are designed to be inert, odorless, colorless and tasteless to ensure that the finished product is not influenced in any way. Typically, ingestible authentication markers are inserted at parts per billion levels. At such low concentrations, they cannot be detected by conventional chemical analysis, but can be detected by proprietary analyzers and test kits.
