Keeping a Brand Protection Fuel Marking Program on the Right Track

A Brand Protection Fuel Marking Program can be accomplished either by direct addition of the marker to the fuel, or via a performance additive.

As needed, an audit of the additive supplier is required to ensure correct addition and mixing of the additive and marker, along with regular quality control of the marked additive.

Regular audits are one of the key components essential to ensure the success of any fuel marking program. Audits can take place at both the terminal /additive addition sites and also in the laboratory testing facilities. If field testing is also undertaken, then audits of these procedures are also required.

The audits ensure the objectivity and authenticity of the analytical data, the marking processes, the laboratories process compliance, and management transparency. It also confirms the Authentix technology is being correctly applied.

Audits can also provide feedback mechanisms to monitor results and improve processes on an ongoing basis.

Detailed regular audits, the frequency of which can be defined with the customer based on activities, typically consist of:

  • Marker / additive blending (if appropriate)
  • Field sampling and testing activities
  • Laboratory equipment and facilities
  • Site security
  • Transport security
  • Staff training (Marking, sampling and analysis)
  • Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) compliance in marking, sampling and analysis
  • Chain of custody for any failed samples (all components including marker, fuel samples, test results).

Audits are carried out by experienced Authentix personnel and are clearly documented, providing evidence for process compliance and enforcement procedures.
